Suryansh Shedge is reportedly in contention for his maiden India ODI call-up for the New Zealand series after impressive performances against Australia A. The Mumbai all-rounder's recent displays with bat and ball have strengthened his chances of joining India's ODI squad.
Mumbai all-rounder Suryansh Shedge is reportedly in contention for his maiden India ODI call-up for the upcoming series against New Zealand. His recent performances against Australia A have strengthened his chances of earning an opportunity in India's 50-over squad.
The 23-year-old has impressed with both bat and ball in the unofficial ODI series against Australia A in Puducherry. His performances have attracted attention as the Indian selectors assess players ahead of the New Zealand tour.
Although Shedge has already represented India in T20 International cricket, a selection for the ODI squad would mark a new milestone in his international career.
Suryansh Shedge Impresses Against Australia A
Suryansh Shedge delivered encouraging performances during the unofficial ODI series between India A and Australia A. His ability to contribute in both departments makes him an option worth considering for the national team's limited-overs setup.
In one of the matches, Shedge impressed with the ball, taking four wickets for 40 runs. He also contributed with the bat during the series, including a valuable innings of 66 runs in the final match.
These performances came after he returned to competitive cricket following an injury. His ability to make an impact after his recovery has added to the interest surrounding his potential selection for the New Zealand ODI series.
Why Suryansh Shedge Could Get an India ODI Call-Up
India's selectors are assessing players who can strengthen the team's balance ahead of the upcoming international assignments. An all-rounder who can contribute with both batting and seam bowling offers flexibility in team selection.
Shedge's recent performances for India A have given him an opportunity to make a case for selection. His middle-order batting can provide additional runs, while his bowling offers another option for the captain.
Reports suggest that team-combination requirements could influence his chances. However, the final decision will depend on the selectors and the availability of other players.
Until the official squad announcement, his selection should be treated as a possibility rather than a confirmed development.
Suryansh Shedge Has Already Played T20I Cricket for India
Suryansh Shedge is not entirely new to international cricket. The Mumbai all-rounder received his first India call-up in June 2026 when he replaced the injured Nitish Kumar Reddy in India's T20I squads for the series against Ireland and England.
The selection followed his performances for India A in a tri-series in Sri Lanka, where he scored 147 runs in five matches and also contributed with the ball.
Shedge had previously attracted attention during Mumbai's successful Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy campaign in the 2024-25 season. He scored 131 runs at a strike rate of 251.92, demonstrating his ability to score quickly in the lower middle order.
A possible ODI call-up would give him an opportunity to expand his international experience beyond the T20 format.
How Shedge Could Help India's ODI Team
Modern ODI cricket requires players who can adapt to different match situations. Batting depth and bowling flexibility can be especially important when teams face injuries, workload concerns or changes in team combinations.
Shedge's all-round skills could provide India with another option in the middle order. His ability to bowl seam deliveries could also be useful when the team requires additional support from its all-rounders.
However, selection alone does not guarantee a place in the playing XI. If he is included in the squad, Shedge would still need to compete for a spot and demonstrate that he can perform at the international level.
India vs New Zealand ODI Series: What to Know
India are scheduled to tour New Zealand for a multi-format series, including five T20 Internationals, five ODIs and two Test matches.
The ODI series is expected to provide both teams with opportunities to evaluate players and build combinations ahead of future international competitions.
For Shedge, the tour could represent an important opportunity to move from India A cricket into the senior ODI setup. Strong domestic and India A performances can help players attract the selectors' attention, although final selection depends on several factors.
Cricket fans will be waiting for India's official ODI squad announcement to see whether Shedge receives his first opportunity in the format.

Suryansh Shedge has emerged as a player to watch after his impressive performances against Australia A. His four-wicket haul and useful contribution with the bat have strengthened his case for consideration ahead of India's ODI series against New Zealand.
