Sarfaraz Khan confirmed Sai Sudharsan’s replacement for Sri Lanka Tests
India have brought in Sarfaraz Khan as a replacement for Sai Sudharsan for the upcoming two-Test series against Sri Lanka, starting on August 15.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that Sudharsan will miss the assignment as he continues to recover from a right toe stress reaction. He has been undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (COE) in Bengaluru and has made significant progress, though he is not yet ready for Test cricket.
“He will link up with the Indian squad in Colombo before the team travels to Galle for the first Test match, starting August 15, 2026,” the BCCI said in a release on Sunday.
Sarfaraz has played six Tests for India, scoring 371 runs at an average of 37.10, with three half-centuries and one century. He last featured for India in November 2024 against New Zealand. The Mumbai batter returns to the Test setup after strong domestic performances, including being among the leading run-scorers for Mumbai in the 2025 Ranji Trophy.

The first Test begins in Galle on August 15, with the second scheduled at the SSC in Colombo from August 23. Both matches form part of the ongoing World Test Championship cycle.
