“Absolutely ready”: Bhuvneshwar Kumar on playing ODI World Cup 2027
Indian pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar has received strong backing in recent months, with former cricketers and experts urging a recall to India’s ODI squad for the 2027 World Cup. The support intensified after his outstanding performances in IPL 2026, where he claimed 28 wickets and played a key role in Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s back-to-back title wins. He also became the first fast bowler in IPL history to take 200 wickets. Speaking amid the growing discussion, Bhuvneshwar made it clear he would be ready if the call comes, while stressing that his current focus remains on improving his game. “Why would I say no if I get a call? Absolutely ready,” Bhuvneshwar Kumar said, as quoted by Hindustan Times. “Honestly, I cannot say exactly how ready I am. My job is to play cricket and that is why I have come here to play in the UP T20 league. I didn’t come here with the intention of moving to another place or reaching another level,” he added. “We play IPL knowing we have to perform and win matches for the team, but I didn’t come here to the UP T20 league hoping to get picked elsewhere or because someone said something,” he said. Bhuvneshwar was a regular in India’s bowling attack until 2022 before injury setbacks pushed him out of the national setup. His last ODI appearance came in January 2022. In total, he has played 121 ODIs for India and taken 141 wickets. The veteran is currently training with Lucknow Falcons ahead of the UP T20 League. While he remains open to an India return, he has left the final decision to the selectors.
