Mominul Haque Overtakes Tamim Iqbal's Run Tally; Closes Gap On No. 1 Spot
Mominul Haque has reached another major milestone in Bangladesh cricket, moving ahead of former opener Tamim Iqbal in the country's all-time Test run-scoring charts. The left-handed batter achieved the landmark during Bangladesh's ongoing Test campaign against Australia. Mominul entered the match just three runs behind Tamim's career tally of 5,134 Test runs. After reaching the milestone earlier this year, he has now moved beyond his former teammate's mark. Mominul's achievement adds another important chapter to his long Test career. Known for his consistency and ability to play long innings, he has become one of Bangladesh's most dependable Test batters. Mominul Haque Moves Ahead Of Tamim Iqbal Before Mominul's latest move up the rankings, Tamim Iqbal had been Bangladesh's second-highest Test run-scorer with 5,134 runs from 70 Tests. Mominul reached the 5,000-run milestone in May 2026 during Bangladesh's Test against Pakistan. He became only the third Bangladeshi batter to cross the landmark after Mushfiqur Rahim and Tamim Iqbal. His latest performances have now pushed his career tally beyond Tamim's mark and strengthened his place among Bangladesh's Test greats. Mushfiqur Rahim Still Leads The List Although Mominul has moved ahead of Tamim, the No.1 position still belongs to Mushfiqur Rahim. Mushfiqur remains Bangladesh's leading Test run-scorer with more than 6,800 runs, giving him a significant advantage over both Mominul and Tamim. That means Mominul's latest achievement puts him in second place rather than first. However, closing the gap with the country's leading Test batter would be another major milestone for the experienced left-hander. Mominul Continues To Play A Key Role Mominul's importance to Bangladesh's Test side remains evident. During the first Test against Australia in Darwin, he played an important role in stabilising Bangladesh's innings after Australia were bowled out for 198. At the end of the opening day, Mominul was unbeaten alongside Tanzid Hasan as Bangladesh reached 96 for one. Mominul contributed 35 runs and helped Bangladesh finish the day in a strong position. His ability to occupy the crease and build partnerships makes him particularly valuable in Test cricket. Can Mominul Challenge Mushfiqur's Record? Mominul still has a considerable distance to cover before he can challenge Mushfiqur Rahim for the top position in Bangladesh's Test batting charts. However, his recent milestone shows that his career remains highly productive. If he continues playing Test cricket and maintains his current level of performance, he could further strengthen his position among Bangladesh's all-time leading run-scorers. For now, moving ahead of Tamim Iqbal is a significant achievement and another reminder of Mominul Haque's contribution to Bangladesh Test cricket.
